It has been a long time coming, but the acclaimed Diablo series will be getting a brand-new entry with the upcoming Diablo 4, which will launch on June 6, 2023. However, fans have had the opportunity to enjoy an early look at the game with two beta periods, allowing them to familiarize themselves with the changes that will alter how they play.

A key part of that is the mechanic of weapon swapping, something that Diablo 4 is doing quite differently compared to the earlier entries. For those who have been wondering just how to swap weapons in Diablo 4, this guide will provide all the answers.

How to Swap Weapons in Diablo 4

In the game, swapping weapons happen automatically for all of the classes, save for the Barbarian. As an example, a Rogue can attack up close with daggers but will switch to the bow when the skill requires a ranged component. As for the Barbarian, the unique way in which the class approaches combat will see more of utility for swapping weapons in Diablo 4.

This is because Barbarians can equip up to four weapons - two sets of dual-wielded weapons and two one-handed weapons - and fall into either the bludgeoning or slicing school of skills. Although certain skills will automatically switch between the full arsenal of the Barbarian, certain skills can be assigned a specific weapon to carry out the bloody deed.

To ensure that a chosen weapon is assigned to a specific skill, open the Skills Menu. Toggle over to the skill that needs changing, and press the middle mouse button on PC to cycle through all available weapons suitable for the skill. For players on console, go through the process of assigning the skill to the quickbar, and there will be a corresponding input to cycle through the weapons.

By matching the right weapons to the right skills, it becomes more than just an aesthetic choice in Diablo 4 when fighting against the forces of evil as the Barbarian. The added strategic depth and tactical flexibility point towards just one of the many improvements made for the game, and it will likely allow players to customize their builds even further when the game gets into full swing in just a few months.

Diablo 4 launches June 6 on PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, and PS5.
