Legendary gear pieces form the backbone of many of Diablo 4's builds, and they make up the vast majority of the game's grind. Eventually, players will get too many of these items, and they'll find their stashes overflowing with junk.

Thankfully, a couple of new systems were introduced in Diablo 4 that makes even old or seemingly-useless items valuable. For players who are knee-deep in Legendaries, here's a quick guide on what to do with them.

What to Do With Legendary Items in Diablo 4

Apart from actually using them, Legendary gear can either be sold or dismantled for rare crafting materials—both of these are surprisingly important in the late game, given how the economy is tuned.

Gold in Diablo 4 doesn't drop as much as it did in the previous game. Players may often find themselves strapped for money in the late game, especially if they change their builds often. Legendary items tend to sell for higher prices, making them great sources of additional income for when players really need the cash.

However, the true value of Legendary gear doesn't come from the gold they can provide. Players who don't need any money can instead take their unused Legendaries to the town blacksmith for dismantling. They can be melted down into rare and valuable resources like Coiling Wards and Baleful Fragments, both of which are used for this next part.

Perhaps the most valuable thing players can do to unwanted Legendary gear is to have their Aspects extracted by an Occultist. The process will destroy the item, but it will yield a usable legendary power that can be imprinted into a yellow-rarity item, essentially turning that into a new legendary.

Extracting Aspects is best done to Legendaries that have rare powers or high-end stat rolls. Aspects from the Codex of Power always roll with their lowest possible value, while random drops featuring a Codex Aspect may have better numbers on them.

A single extraction can cost up to a hundred thousand gold depending on the item that's getting sacrificed, and imprinting costs just as much, if not more, considering how it also requires rare materials. Players will have to carefully manage the resources they have available so they don't run out of money or materials for when it really matters.

Keep in mind that the powers of Unique items cannot be extracted. However, they can still be sold or dismantled like any other piece of equipment.

Diablo 4 is out now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
