Nightmare Sigils are consumable items in Diablo 4 that are used to access Nightmare Dungeons, challenging maps that play an important role in the endgame. While the purpose of Nightmare Sigils is quite straightforward, the ways in which they are obtained may be less obvious. Indeed, some players may be confused about how to get their hands on Nightmare Sigils in Diablo 4, and this guide is here to dispel that confusion.

To note, Nightmare Sigils are only available in World Tier 3 and above. While it is not extremely difficult to unlock that World Tier in Diablo 4, players will need to beat the campaign at least once before that can be done. For those fans that are curious, this endeavor takes approximately 20 hours, and players that have not yet completed it should plan to return to this guide at a later date.

Diablo 4: How to Get Nightmare Sigils

For those players that are looking to obtain their first Nightmare Sigil, the Tree of Whispers' Grim Favors system is the best option to pursue. For the uninitiated, this system becomes available upon beating Diablo 4's campaign and interacting with the Tree of Whispers, and it centers around completing tasks that award Grim Favors. Fans can see these tasks marked on their in-game maps, and their goal should be to accumulate 10 Grim Favors.

With 10 Grim Favors secured, players should return to Diablo 4's Tree of Whispers to receive their reward: a cache of their choosing. While these containers do not always award Nightmare Sigils, they seem to provide them fairly regularly, and fans should simply collect Grim Favors and claim caches until they receive one. Notably, the Tree of Whispers' Chaos caches seem to be the best containers for earning Nightmare Sigils, though that has not yet been verified with hard data.

Once a player has received their first Nightmare Sigil, they can access a more consistent source for these consumables: the Nightmare Dungeons themselves. Indeed, fans will frequently obtain Nightmare Sigils while clearing those maps, making it possible to chain together Nightmare Dungeons in Diablo 4 without interruption.

Furthermore, fans that complete a Tier 3 Nightmare Dungeon will gain access to Nightmare Sigil Crafting at the Occultists. To craft a Nightmare Sigil, players must use Sigil Powder, a material that can be obtained in Nightmare Dungeons and by salvaging unwanted Nightmare Sigils at the Occultists, and fans that use this feature as a supplemental source for Sigils should never run out of these consumables.

Diablo 4 is available for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
