Diablo 4: How to Farm Forgotten Souls
To start simply, Forgotten Souls are earned in Helltides, events that last for one hour and become available upon unlocking World Tier 3. For those players that meet that requirement, this Diablo 4 Helltide tracker is very useful for knowing when the next Helltide event will occur.
Once a Helltide event has started, players should make their way to the areas on Diablo 4's map that have turned red and focus on mining Screaming Hell Veins as well as defeating Harbingers and other Elites. Not only will these activities occasionally award Forgotten Souls, they are also sources for Aberrant Cinders. This currency is used to open chests within the Helltide, and there is one type upon which players should focus. Specifically, Diablo 4 fans should open Tortured Gift of Mysteries chests, as those containers award the greatest number of Forgotten Souls.
With respect to how to find these chests, which require 175 Abberant Cinders, the community has created this Tortured Gift of Mysteries map that showcases all possible spawn points. Notably, only one Tortured Gift of Mysteries chest will spawn per area per Helltide event. This means that if the Helltide spans two areas, players have the opportunity to open two chests before the event concludes.
That said, Tortured Gift of Mysteries chests respawn in new positions at the top of the hour. For example, if a Helltide event ran from 10:15 to 11:15, two Tortured Gift of Mysteries would be available from 10:15 to 11:00, and two new ones would be available form 11:00 to 11:15. As such, it is not uncommon that players can actually open four of these chests during a single Helltide event in Diablo 4.
One final thing to mention is that Tortured Gift of Mysteries chest seemingly award more Forgotten Souls in World Tier 4 than they do in World Tier 3. As such, players that want to obtain this material quickly should complete the Fallen Temple Capstone Dungeon in Diablo 4 as soon as it is possible for them to do so.
