Throughout Diablo 4, there are many varied and menacing threats, but none present a tougher challenge than the notorious boss fights. These enemies have considerably more HP than most others, and often have unique special attacks which players will have to learn in order to defeat them.
There are two main categories: Campaign Bosses and World Bosses. Campaign Bosses will be encountered as players progress through the main questline, and can typically be taken on solo if the player is a high enough level. World Bosses, on the other hand, are PvE multiplayer events in which up to 12 players try to slay a boss within a set time window. Players will receive notice up to 30 minutes before a World Boss spawns in anywhere near them.
7 Andariel
Some players may be familiar with Andariel, the only female Evil and the Maiden of Anguish, from previous Diablo games. In Diablo 4, players will encounter her as a Campaign Boss in the quest "A Gathering Storm," which presents the additional challenge of avoiding damage from a sandstorm in the environment.
While Andariel starts the battle chained up, these chains will gradually loosen to free the menacing appendages from her back. Destroying her Rune Chains is key to avoid being roped in and caused additional harm. She is also vulnerable to being staggered, so it is important to capitalize and unload as much damage as possible when she is in the staggered state.
6 Wandering Death
Wandering Death is a giant skeletal behemoth World Boss players will encounter as a regular timed event in the Saraan Caldera area of the Dry Steppes. As a world boss, players should not even attempt to face this creature alone. Players will have to take it down with up to 12 fellow players in a PvE style similar, to that of Guild Wars 2 world bosses.
The main attack to watch out for with Wandering Death is the Death Beam, which will cause massive damage to any players unfortunate enough to be caught in it. Once defeated, Wandering Death will drop special equipment as well as the rare crafting material Scattered Prisms.
5 Elias
Elias, or The Pale Man as he is sometimes known, is a powerful priest and summoner of Lilith. Since he is technically immortal, players will have to face off with him more than once as part of the game's main campaign.
The first encounter in Act 3 will be challenging due to the sheer number of minions he is able to summon. The second (in Act 5) will primarily be about avoiding his Crimson Ripple attack, while his other attacks will be similar to before only more powerful. Once the secret of Elias' immortality is revealed, it will finally be possible to vanquish him and progress through the main story.
4 Duriel, Lord of Pain
Duriel is a loathsome maggot-esque creature and one of the Great Evils. Spawned from the seven heads of Tathamet, it is said that even demons fear his torment. Located in the now-ravaged city of Caldeum, players will encounter this boss during the game's sixth act in the quest "The Walls Shake."
Duriel has three main abilities for players to watch out for. Burrow will enable the creature to reposition itself without sustaining damage. Belly Belch is a ranged attack of stinking bile. Finally, Eater of Worlds will release a stomping attack, followed by Duriel eating the player character and potentially killing them in the process. What makes this boss particularly challenging is the small proximity within which players will have to fight, particularly with such a melee-dominant boss.
3 Avarice, The Gold Cursed
Another challenging World Boss is Avarice, The Gold Cursed. Avarice will spawn in the Seared Basin of Kehjistan. Carrying a chest of gold in one hand and a mallet in the other, this hefty abomination is very dangerous from close range and has powerful melee as well as area-of-effect attacks that players should be wary of.
In addition, he will spawn Treasure Goblins and occasionally vomit up a deadly molten gold ranged attack. This fight becomes particularly difficult once Avarice begins to use Portal abilities, which will cause extra damage upon his re-appearance. Once defeated, Avarice will drop a random selection of rare weapons, as well as the rare crafting material Scattered Prisms.
2 Ashava, The Pestilent
Ashava is a deadly dragon and a World Boss who spawns for limited durations at The Crucible on the South-Eastern side of Fractured Peaks. Players will receive a countdown timer half an hour before Ashava spawns, giving them time to assemble a large enough group to defeat her. The fight will then have a 15-minute time limit in which players must defeat her in order to gain the benefits and loot she will drop.
Ashava has several poison-based attacks, as well as strong melee "sweeps" using her arm-blades. There is also a pounding attack indicated by a circle on the ground which players should be wary to avoid. Wearing poison-resistant armor is highly recommended since most of Ashava's attacks will include poison damage.
1 Lilith, Creator of Sanctuary
The daughter of Mephisto, sister of Lucion, lover of Inarius, Queen of the Succubi, and Mother of Sanctuary is the final and toughest boss in Diablo 4, as her titles might suggest. This shape-shifting underworld matriarch is the key antagonist who players are pursuing throughout the course of the game. Players will get the chance to finally slay her in the mission "What Lies Ahead."
There are two stages to the Lilith boss battle. In the first, will appear in her Creator of Santuary form and will use lots of area-of-effect attacks as well as streaks of flames and spikes players will have to avoid. The second stage is considerably more difficult. Her damage and area-of-effect abilities are increased, and gradually she will destroy the surrounding environment.
