There is hardly an end to the fun for a game like Diablo 4, as the conclusion of the main story plot only leads to the beginning of the ARPG's endgame content. For players that love to slay demons and continue on the road of self-improvement and better gear, the live-service nature of this new entry will be very welcomed.

That said, there are a variety of things players can get up to once their conflict with Lilith comes to a conclusion. Sure, one can clear out random dungeons and hope for a good loot drop, but there are more specific ventures that are always worth a look. One such feature is that of Helltides, and for those wondering just what are Helltides in Diablo 4, the answer lies below.

Essentially, Helltides refer to an in-game event that blankets a particular region of Sanctuary under a strong demonic influence. Within these areas, the remnants of Lilith's forces rise up and are more dangerous than before, transforming the environment into something more sinister and daring Diablo 4 players to venture into danger alone or with friends.

Helltides only occur in World Tier Three: Nightmare difficulty and above, and usually lasts for about an hour before receding. There will often be several regions where a Helltide rises, so players can take their pick in checking out these dangerous areas, kill enemies, and participate in events.

Within each Helltide region will also pop up Tortured Gifts, which are chests that contain loot for a specific item slot. They will appear on the map, and depending on the type of item slot players are looking to fill, they will require a different number of Aberrant Cinders in order to be opened. A Tortured Gift of Chest Armor might require 75 Cinders, whereas another chest for a new weapon might cost upwards of 250 Cinders.

Certain crafting materials, such as the Fiend Rose, can also only be found in areas affected by the Helltide. It is certainly beneficial for players to exploit Helltides whenever they occur in Diablo 4, especially if they seek an improvement for a particular gear slot. Opening Tortured Gifts always has a chance for powerful Uniques and Legendaries to drop, not to mention Sacred and even Ancestral gear for those lucky enough.

Diablo 4 is available for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
