Players that open the Ornate Lockbox in Remnant 2 will obtain the Thaen Seed, a Quest Item that can be used in two ways. That said, neither of the uses for this unique item are made explicitly clear in-game, and some fans may be confused about what they are meant to do with it. This guide is here to alleviate that confusion, and players can find details on the uses for Remnant 2's Thaen Seed in what follows.

Remnant 2: Thaen Seed Uses

The first option available to players that have claimed the Thaen Seed is to give the item to the Eternal Empress, an NPC that can be found on Yaesha's Red Throne map. Soulslike fans that pursue this option will receive the Burden of the Rebel ring (reduces Skill Cooldowns by 15% but reduces Relic Use Speed by 25%) and turn the Pan Warriors that are found throughout the world friendly.

Alternatively, players can use the Thaen Seed to grow a special tree by planting it in the garden at Ward 13. For full clarity, the mound of dirt within which the seed can be planted is shown in the following image, and the tree that grows from it will yield Thaen Fruit, consumables that revive Remnant 2 heroes and provide temporary immunity to status effects upon death, and ultimately the Ripened Heart Relic (on use, heals 35 Health over 0.5s and an additional 70 over 5s).

For those Remnant 2 players that would like to know more about the items that can be harvested from the tree, there are three types of Thaen Fruit, and the type that is awarded is contingent upon how long the fruit is left to mature. More specifically, picking the fruit immediately will yield a Mature Thaen Fruit, leaving a Mature fruit on the tree for two real world days will yield an Elder Thaen Fruit, and leaving an Elder fruit on the tree for two real world days will yield a Celestial Thaen Fruit. The following breakdown demonstrates how these fruits differ from one another, and fans that want the very best consumables should exercise patience with their trees:

  • Mature Thaen Fruit: Revive with 30% health. Immune to status effects for 30 seconds.
  • Elder Thaen Fruit: Revive with 40% health. Immune to status effects for 30 seconds.
  • Celestial Thaen Fruit: Revive with 50% health. Immune to status effects for 30 seconds.

With respect to how to obtain the Ripened Heart Relic from the tree, there is still some debate about the exact requirements for unlocking the item. Indeed, some players suggest that growing and eating three Celestial Thaen Fruit will cause the Ripened Heart to appear on the tree within two real world days, while others state that simply picking all three types will lead to the same result. While waiting for this debate to be definitively resolved, players are advised to use the following method, which should quickly yield the Remnant 2 Relic:

  1. Plant Thaen Seed.
  2. Quit to main menu and advance system date by two days (disconnecting from the internet if necessary).
  3. Load into Ward 13. A Mature Thaen Fruit should now be on the tree.
  4. Repeat Steps 2 & 3. An Elder Thaen Fruit should now be on the tree.
  5. Repeat Steps 2 & 3. A Celestial Thaen Fruit should now be on the tree.
  6. Pick and eat the Celestial Thaen Fruit.
  7. Repeat Steps 2-6 two more times.
  8. Quit to main menu and advance system date by two days.
  9. Load into Ward 13. The Ripened Heart Relic should now be on the tree.

One final thing to mention is that it is possible to obtain multiple Thaen Seeds by re-rolling Yaesha (either through the campaign or Adventure Mode) and opening Remnant 2's Ornate Lockbox again. As such, players need not be too concerned about what they do with their first Thaen Seed, as they can always collect another. Fans that only plan to play through Yaesha once are advised to go for the tree, though, as the Burden of the Rebel ring is not exceptional.

Remnant 2 is available for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X.
