Baldur’s Gate 3’s release date is just around the corner, and players old and new can’t wait to get their hands on it. It already has overwhelmingly positive reviews because of its great early access run in the past year. Those who haven’t tried Baldur’s Gate 3 and its previous installment yet may be overwhelmed by the wide variety of classes they can choose from. Fortunately, games like Diablo 4 offer similar classes that players can compare with the ones in Baldur’s Gate 3 and pick one that fits their playstyle perfectly. For those who like playing the Rogue, it comes down to two classes.

The Baldur’s Gate franchise is heavily inspired by the tabletop roleplaying game Dungeons and Dragons’ Forgotten Realms campaign. Its gameplay, from character customization to combat and other encounters, draws from the massively popular TRPG. Baldur’s Gate 3 takes it a step further by forgoing the hack-and-slash gameplay that previous games had and opting for a turn-based format instead. The game also has all the classes that DnD 5th Edition has, complete with subclasses and favored enemies.

Diablo 4’s Rogue Players Can’t Go Wrong With Picking The Same Class in Baldur’s Gate 3

diablo 4 rogue-1

The Rogue class in Diablo 4 and Baldur’s Gate 3 have a lot in common, despite the two games having drastically different gameplay mechanics and character customization features. For one, both can switch from melee to ranged weapons during combat. Both are true to their archetypes, as they can deal massive damage to enemies using their daggers up close or kite opponents out with a bow. Like its Diablo 4 counterpart, Baldur’s Gate 3’s Rogue can also use deadly poisons and magic to gain the upper hand during fights.

The best builds for Rogue in Baldur’s Gate 3 make the most of its signature Sneak Attack and Cunning Action mechanics. Sneak Attack lets rogues deal an extra 1d6 damage to one creature they attack if they have an advantage while using a finesse or ranged weapon. For Thief Rogues, this advantage can be had from hiding, while Assassin Rogues have an advantage over creatures who haven’t attacked yet. Arcane Trickster Rogues can get an advantage over their enemies by distracting them with a mage hand or another spell. They can then use Cunning Action to disengage, dash, or hide to keep themselves safe from retaliation. Therefore, would-be Rogues should prioritize using weapons like daggers and crossbows to trigger Sneak Attack. As for their race, the Wood Half-Elf is the best choice, as it has a movement bonus and stealth proficiency.

Diablo 4 Rogue Players Can Double-Down on Range With Baldur’s Gate 3’s Ranger

Dungeons and Dragons Ranger

Diablo 4 doesn’t offer a lot of opportunities for stealth like Baldur’s Gate 3 does, which is why some players may be more comfortable playing a Ranger. It offers the same ranged attack proficiency as the Rogue, but they often fight in the open and have access to the Summon Companion spell, which lets them call on strong creatures like bears to fight alongside them. Baldur’s Gate 3 Rangers can also fight up close with simple and martial weapons. They even have shield and medium armor proficiencies for extra survivability, something that Rogues sorely lack.

Diablo 4’s Rogue mains will feel right at home within the confines of Baldur’s Gate, as the latter’s Rogue and Ranger classes offer similar playstyles. If they want to stay in the shadows and strike at the opportune time during combat, they’re best suited to using Baldur’s Gate 3’s Rogue. The Ranger, on the other hand, will fit like a glove for those who want to use their trusty bow and arrow while also playing a more supportive role in their team.

Baldur’s Gate 3 is set to release on August 3, 2023, for PC and September 6, 2023, for PS5.
