2023 has kept PlayStation owners busy. The year produced games like Elden Ring, Gran Turismo 7, Tiny Tina's Wonderlands, Horizon Forbidden West, God of War Ragnarok, and Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga, all titles that garnered critical acclaim.

The PlayStation 5 library is consistently expanding, and the best is presumably yet to come for Sony's current console. In the meantime, the PlayStation 4 continues to receive love with cross-generation titles, so people who have yet to upgrade still have plenty to look forward to.

Updated August 2, 2023: August 2023 is set up to be a relatively strong month for gaming. While the focus might be on soon-to-be-released titles like Armored Core 6 and Atlas Fallen, the gaming industry is always setting the stage for the future. The upcoming PS5 games were added to the calendar in the last few days: Simon The Sorcerer Origins, Elypse, Shadow Gambit: The Cursed Crew, Crossfire: Sierra Squad, Bomb Rush Cyberfunk, Paperman: Adventure Delivered, Truck Driver: The American Dream, Formula Retro Racing: World Tour, Broforce Forever, Double Dragon Advance, Super Double Dragon.

PS5 & PS4 Games Coming Out In August 2023

Even if August does not have a major title on the level of Diablo 4 or The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, games like Atlas Fallen, Armored Core 6: Fires of Rubicon, and Sea of Stars are fairly substantial releases in their own right. The Texas Chain Saw Massacre has also been confirmed for the month, and it could be a great addition to the 4v1 asymmetrical multiplayer scene.

Deck13's Atlas Fallen is a departure from the developer's recent Soulslike output, as the game appears to be more of a hack and slash RPG. In August 2023, FromSoftware will be returning to its longest-running franchise with Armored Core 6, which will be the first entry in the series in roughly a decade. Tower of Fantasy will be making its PlayStation debut, granting customers another free-to-play action RPG they can try out alongside something like Genshin Impact​​​​​​. EA's Immortals of Aveum has been delayed to August, and while its pre-launch reception has been mixed, the magic-focused game has the potential to be a fun ride.

PS5 & PS4 Games Coming Out In September 2023

Following a few months that are not stacked with major releases, September 2023 marks a swing in the opposite direction. Just a few days in, Baldur's Gate 3 will debut on the PS5, and Larian's RPG is likely to be among the genre's longest and strongest projects of the year. The racing genre has two significant PS5 titles set for September: The Crew Motorfest and Disney Speedstorm. Developed and published by Ubisoft, the former is an open-world racer set on a Hawaiian island; conversely, the latter is a free-to-play arcade kart racer. Basketball fans can pick up NBA 2K24.

During the span of roughly a week, Payday 3, Lies of P, Mortal Kombat 1, and Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty will be coming out, and together, they should cover a wide spectrum of preferences. Payday 3 is a multiplayer-driven first-person shooter that is building on its predecessor's decade-long history. Lies of P is a Soulslike that takes inspiration from Bloodborne, and a successful demo has greatly amplified its hype. Mortal Kombat 1 represents a new era in NetherRealm's franchise, one that comes with fresh character models and a few new mechanics. Lastly, Phantom Liberty is Cyberpunk 2077's first major expansion.

Some of the most hyped games currently in development have yet to give an exact release date for 2023. Sonic Superstars and Dune Awakening should hit the market within the calendar year, and they could be among the biggest titles of 2023.

Games like Lords of the Fallen and Alan Wake 2 have a great deal of potential and already have release dates for October 2023, which is shaping up to be a particularly stacked month. Titles such as The Wolf Among Us 2, Bloodlines 2, and Ghostrunner 2 are also targeting 2023 releases.

Major Games In Development With A Post-2023 Debut Or No Release Year

As games spend years in development, plenty of projects are known to be in the works but have yet to announce anything resembling a release year. While it is not completely out of the question that some of these titles could be released in 2023, the developers have not given any indication of that being the case.

Death Stranding 2, Slitterhead, Assassin's Creed Infinity, and Beyond Good and Evil 2 are some of the biggest games in the works, all of which will attract plenty of attention once they debut. Most of these titles are presumably a few years away, although there is always a chance they could be announced in 2022. Some other massive titles are Kingdom Hearts 4, Grand Theft Auto 6, Judas, and The Elder Scrolls 6.

Rumors should always be taken with a grain of salt; that said, speculating about what unrevealed titles are secretly in development for the PS5 can be a lot of fun. With the PS5 in full swing, rumors have started making the rounds as people begin to speculate on what games they would love to see make an appearance on the console. Could these releases take the form of long-overdue sequels? Much needed remakes? Or could there be some new IP in the works that will become the new GTA?
