A Hogwarts Legacy player who entered a random home in Hogwarts Valley discovered a cow inside. Hogwarts Legacy launched earlier this year to massive sales success as well as critical and commercial praise, becoming the bestselling game of 2023 and one of several strong contenders for Game of the Year.

As an open-world RPG set in the Harry Potter universe, Hogwarts Legacy lets fans live out the fantasy of attending the world-famous school of witchcraft and wizardry as a new fifth-year student in the 1800s. Complete with choosing one of the four houses, learning spells, attending classes, visiting the nearby village of Hogsmeade, and much more, Hogwarts Legacy is being hailed by some as the quintessential Wizarding World video game for any fan of the Harry Potter books or movies. Hogwarts Castle is by far this game's crown jewel and its biggest draw, however, there's more on offer than just the massive school, as the game lets players freely roam the areas surrounding Hogwarts and Hogsmeade such as the Forbidden Forest, Hogsmeade Station, and a variety of smaller towns and villages occupied by witches and wizards.

One player out exploring beyond the walls of Hogwarts stumbled upon a house in a village which caught them by surprise upon entering. On Reddit, jes12345678 posted an image to the HarryPotterGame subreddit of them finding a brown cow sitting in the middle of a random home out in the world. Most of the villages feature wildlife and farm animals milling about among the many cozy huts and houses, but they're never seen actually entering any of the homes, as they're always meant to remain outside.

Many would see something like this as merely a bug: a simple misplacement of an asset. However, the Wizarding World universe allows for a much more interesting, though unlikely explanation for a cow being found inside a home like this. Some of the commenters under the post humorously pointed out the possibility that the cow could be an Animagus: a wizard or witch who can freely morph into an animal. Hogwarts Legacy does feature a side story of a student who is an Animagus, so it's not outside the realm of possibility for this to be the case. However, it's more than likely just a simple bug.

While Hogwarts Legacy does provide fans the wonder and magic of being able to explore the winding and crowded halls of Hogwarts at will, its world beyond the castle isn't nearly as large or as intricate as some other major 2023 RPGs like the recently released Baldur's Gate 3, Diablo 4, or Bethesda's imminent galaxy-spanning Starfield. That said, some fans who've completed the game are wondering about what's next for the Wizarding World RPG, whether possible DLC or perhaps a sequel could be in the cards down the line. As the studio behind Hogwarts Legacy, Avalanche Software, begins spinning up its next AAA project, it may be a while before fans will be able to learn more.

Hogwarts Legacy is out now for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S, with a Switch port on the way on November 14.
