A gamer rediscovered the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES) console and game collection they had from their childhood after a round of unpacking and shared their console and game collection on social media. The retro gamer received compliments for holding onto their SNES collection and for keeping most of the games in decent condition, despite time taking its toll on some of the cartridges.

Originally released in Japan in late 1990, the SNES was Nintendo's second home console released globally. Nintendo looked to capitalize on the success of the NES when the SNES was released in North America in the summer of 1991. As the history of the SNES goes, competition from the Sega Genesis and its Sonic the Hedgehog series proved to be a strong challenger for Nintendo throughout the 1990s. Though the Genesis went on to sell over 30 million units globally, the SNES went on to sell 49 million units by the time the console's production fully ceased in 1998. As proven by one gamer's rediscovery, the SNES offered experiences that can not be easily replaced.

On Reddit, a user named JadeHellbringer uncovered their SNES and 20 game cartridges in a box following a 1,800-mile move. The OP shared a picture of their collection on the Gaming subreddit. The box contained a refurbished SNES, which the OP said was their original console put back together thanks to some training they received and some parts they extracted from another SNES that no longer worked. The box contained 20 game cartridges, which were sorted in alphabetical order, including two copies of Super Mario World. As one of the launch titles for the SNES, the OP stated one copy of Super Mario World came with the busted console they used for part extraction. The box also contained a power cable, an RF adapter, and three controllers.

Some of the cartridges the OP kept included the first two Donkey Kong Country games, Star Fox, and Street Fighter 2. However, JadeHellbringer stated some of their rare SNES games, such as Super Metroid and F-Zero, remained unaccounted for. The OP received over 1.1k upvotes on the Gaming subreddit within a day, and other users thanked them for sharing their nostalgia. In the comments, JadeHellbringer said the box had not seen the light of day since 2006, and said that they have a CRT TV in their garage ready to play these titles.

Though some SNES titles such as Super Mario Kart can be played on the Nintendo Switch Online SNES app, that has not stopped gamers from reliving childhood memories on original hardware. It remains to be seen which SNES classics will be added to the service next.
