An incredibly talented Super Mario fan has built an impressive LEGO model of Bowser’s infamous castle, complete with actual moving parts that recreate aspects from the games. LEGO and video games have always clicked together like two bricks in a set, and LEGO builders of all stripes have shown off their custom video game-inspired projects on social media. Many of these impressive designs are based on Nintendo’s long line of first-party games, re-imaging classic elements like the Clock Tower from Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask and Samus’s spaceship from the Metroid franchise as plastic building sets.

No list of classic Nintendo properties would be complete without Super Mario, and one of the series’ most iconic locations is Bowser’s dreaded castle. Serving as the final level of many Super Mario titles, Bowser’s Castle is well-remembered for its dark atmosphere and perilous lava rivers, and fans have recreated it in games like Animal Crossing: New Horizons. Naturally, when LEGO started releasing playsets based on Super Mario back in 2020, Bower’s Castle was chief among them - and now one talented builder has taken it to the next level with their own massive LEGO model.

A LEGO-centric TikTok account by the handle of Beyond the Brick recently shared a video clip of an impressive Bowser’s Castle made by master builder Chelsy Chesterman. In addition to being incredibly large and accurate to the design from the Super Mario games, this rendition of Bowser’s Lava Castle features working lights and motor-powered mechanical parts that recreate the many hazards Mario must navigate on his way to save Princess Peach - including a front gate that raises open, flowing lava, rotating Fire Bars, and large stone Thwomp Traps that raise and lower to crush any plumber that dares try to run underneath them.

As mentioned before, LEGO released an official set of Bower’s Castle as part of its Super Mario line, which consists of an interactive board game and various expansion sets that add new levels and power-ups from the games. Bowser himself would later get a designated LEGO set, as well as a 14-foot-tall statue that was displayed at San Diego Comic-Con last year. The LEGO Super Mario line has been quite successful, so much so that sets based on other Nintendo properties like Animal Crossing are said to be in the works.

Bower’s Castle from the Super Mario games is one of the most iconic final stages in all of gaming, and Chelsy Chesterman’s stunning LEGO replica recreates the large scope and perilous atmosphere of the Koopa King’s lair. From the various motor-powered hazards that stand in Mario’s way to the many LEGO-fied versions of characters like Princess Peach, this massive model captures all the fun and danger that Mario encounters during his final run to save the Mushroom Kingdom.
