SNK reveals the first gameplay footage for the revival of its classic fighting game series, along with revealing the game's title as Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves. This new entry in the Fatal Fury series was confirmed back at EVO 2022, with its first teaser trailer being shown off at EVO 2023. The Fatal Fury series, or Garou Densetsu in Japan, was one of SNK's biggest fighting game franchises back in the 1990s, which had several sequels and spin-offs to capitalize. After the release of Garou: Mark of the Wolves in 1999, the series would take a break as SNK fell off and focused on other franchises in the subsequent years.

The late-2010s and early-2020s have seen a revival in many of SNK's fighting game franchises, such as the Samurai Shodown reboot in 2019, along with The King of Fighters 15's release in 2022. Last year's KOF sequel saw generally favorable reviews, though many were critical of its lack of content. Despite that, SNK has been providing post-launch support and DLC characters, such as announcing Duo Lon for the second season pass of KOF15 during this year's EVO tournament. SNK's new trailer for Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves was also shown during this event.

This trailer starts with a brief broadcast that could be heard throughout the city, with several characters all speaking at once as they fight. It then cuts to gameplay footage, where it shows off how two of SNK's biggest stars, Terry Bogard and Rock Howard, will look in Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves. Terry's iconic outfit from Garou: Mark of the Wolves has been retained, with Rock Howard similarly having the same classic wardrobe. The models appear to be recycled from KOF15, though with some minor visual tweaks.

Terry and Rock have their trademark moves, with Terry having his Power Wave and Rock using his biological father's Reppuken. Attentive viewers of the trailer were able to identify who could be included in this Garou sequel based on the trailer's opening broadcast. Alongside Rock and Terry, potential fighters include Mai Shiranui, B. Jenet, Billy Kane, Hotaru Futaba, and even Garou: Mark of the Wolves' final boss Kain R. Heinlein.

SNK only confirmed that Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves is "furiously in development" and asks fans to tune in when the next bit of information is shared. The trailer didn't give any target platforms, but based on the previous releases from the developer, it will likely be a multi-platform release. The fighting game developer will also likely implement rollback netcode for this game, as KOF15 included it on launch, and many of its other fighting games, like KOF13 and Samurai Shodown, have been getting patched to include it as well.

Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves is currently in development.
