Immortals of Aveum is one of August 2023's most anticipated titles. Immortals of Aveum features first-person, magic-based combat, and a narrative that CEO and game director of Ascendant Studios, Bret Robbins, describes as a mixture of Doom, BioShock, and God of War. Players will take on the role of Jak, a battlemage fighting in humanity's conflict over the control of Aveum's magic. However, Jak is unlike other battle mages, as he boasts the title of Triarch Magnus. Within the world of Aveum, magic is divided into colors, and individuals are given titles based on the number of colors that they can access. As a Triarch Magnus, Jak is the rarest breed of magic wielder, and this depth of ability sees both him and the player forced into the title's conflict against their will.

Immortals of Aveum was first announced at 2022's Game Awards, immediately catching the attention of both players and professionals throughout the industry. It is the very first title released by California-based developer Ascendant Studios and is being published by EA. Its development is being led by Bret Robbins, who previously worked at Sledgehammer Games, and worked on titles such as Dead Space and Call of Duty. While the next month features plenty of big releases, including both Baldur's Gate 3 and Armored Core 6, Immortals of Aveum is shaping up to be August 2023's breakout hit.

Immortals of Aveum's magic is divided into three colors, each of which boasts a specific essence of nature. Spread throughout the world of Aveum are Leylines, which allow gifted individuals, called Magni, to harness their particular color of magic. Red Magic embodies chaos and destruction, giving wielders the power to destroy through extreme forms of spell casting. In addition to this, Red Magic's strength can be used to solve puzzles and remove obstacles. Green Magic embodies nature's life-giving properties, giving wielders the ability to deal rapid-fire damage, alter the environment, and prevent enemies from healing themselves. Lastly, Blue Magic embodies force and physical manipulation, allowing players to utilize magic in their traversal of the environment, grapple enemies, and create defensive structures.

Conflict over control of Immortals of Aveum's magic has led to thousands of years of war between the land's kingdoms, which their inhabitants refer to as the Everwar. When players meet Jak, the Everwar has been waged to the point that only two kingdoms, Lucium and Rasharn, remain. As part of an elite squad, called The Immortals, Jak, will seek to save a world brought to the brink of destruction by the Everwar by turning the tide towards Lucium. However, they must first defeat Sandrakk, the leader of Rasharn's Order of the Masks, an Elite Strike force akin to the Order of Immortals.

Magni is the term given to those who can wield a particular color of magic, with Dual Magni able to wield two out of three.
