Baldur's Gate 3 is already a massive success for Larian Studios and one of the most popular games in Steam history. Hype has been incredibly high for Baldur's Gate 3 in the months leading up to its release, and now the big day is finally here. PC gamers are free to jump into Larian's latest and finally see what the gigantic game has to offer beyond the content that was available in its Early Access state.
Baldur's Gate 3 has been available in early access since October 2020, giving players a taste of what they could expect from the final product. Baldur's Gate 3 was reasonably popular in early access, but its full release has seen the ambitious RPG absolutely explode in popularity.
At the time of this writing, the Baldur's Gate 3 concurrent player count record on Steam is a whopping 403,373 and climbing. The number gets bigger with each refresh of the page, and one has to imagine that it will grow even more once people get off work and get the game downloaded. Baldur's Gate 3 is so popular on the platform in fact that Steam seems to be having problems for some users who are trying to download the game. Right now it is in 18th place for all-time concurrent players on Steam.
Something to take into account is Baldur's Gate 3's gigantic file size, with the game clocking in at about 122 GB. And since preloading wasn't possible, it's likely many more potential Baldur's Gate 3 players that haven't even been able to jump into the game for themselves yet. Considering this, it will be interesting to see just how much higher the game's concurrent player count can climb. It seems unlikely that it will games like CSGO or PUBG, but it could still get a lot bigger.
The Baldur's Gate 3 Steam concurrent player count is an indication that the game is already a huge hit for Larian Studios, especially when one considers that the game is available on more storefronts than just Steam, with a GOG version also available for purchase. Unfortunately, the Xbox version of Baldur's Gate 3 is currently without a release date, so there's no telling when exactly fans on that platform will get to play the game. However, anyone with a powerful-enough rig can play now and those on PlayStation can mark September 6 on their calendars.
Baldur's Gate 3 is out now for PC with a PS5 version releasing on September 6. An Xbox version is also in development.
