Pokemon Sleep is supposed to be a relaxing, health-oriented game that helps players snooze. This, however, won’t stop fans from personalizing their avatars and coming up with cool Pokemon-ish titles for their Researcher persona. The only problem is that some customization options in Niantic’s sleep-tracker app are hard to find. No worries, though; this guide explains how to change usernames, nicknames, and avatars with easy steps in Pokemon Sleep.

How to Change Username

In the Main Menu, select the avatar in the top-left corner, and edit the profile name by tapping the pen icon. While there’s no need to pick an available handle in Pokemon Sleep, players are limited to 12 characters or fewer. It’s also worth noting that the game doesn’t support special characters or emojis in usernames.

How to Change Player Avatar

From the Main Menu, tap the avatar in the top-left corner, select “Change Icon” under Profile, and pick a new avatar image. Note that Pokemon Sleep doesn’t allow players to upload pictures from their galleries, and they must use one of the general or Pokemon icons already in the game.

To unlock new avatar icons in Pokemon Sleep, players will need to study more Pokemon. Each time they befriend a Pokemon, its avatar becomes available in the profile settings. (Taking pictures of Pokemon without catching them won’t unlock their avatars, though.)

How to Change Pokemon Nickname

Players can change a Pokemon’s nickname by tapping its card in the Pokemon Box. For that, they should open the Pokeball menu, then head to Pokemon Box, and choose the creature to be renamed. After that, they can rename the Pokemon by tapping the pen icon next to its current title. Alternatively, players can also rename Pokemon from the Edit Team section in the Pokeball menu.

Similar to usernames, Pokemon nicknames cannot be longer than 12 characters in Pokemon Sleep. Players will also need to refrain from using special characters or emojis for nicknames as they’re not supported.

How to Change the Helper Team’s Name

In the Pokeball menu, select Edit Team and tap the pen icon next to the team’s title to change the Helper Team’s name. Unlike usernames and Pokemon nicknames, squad titles can be up to 24 characters. However, no special characters or emojis are allowed.
