Highlights

  • Fortnite is rumored to be getting a racing game mode codenamed DelMar, which will feature mechanics similar to Mario Kart and Rocket League.
  • Players will be able to perfect acceleration timing for a starting boost and drift to get a turbo boost, just like in Mario Kart.
  • The racing game mode will also introduce new mechanics such as mud and ice, which will affect the handling of cars and add an obstacle for players to navigate.

More information has been revealed regarding the already leaked racing mode coming to Fortnite, and gamers can expect hectic, Mario Kart-like mechanics to be a big part of it. Fortnite is undoubtedly most known for its Battle Royale game mode. Even though Save the World was supposed to be the main attraction, Fortnite Battle Royale became a phenomenon nearly overnight and is now widely known around the globe. Despite being out for nearly six years now, the game still has an active player base, and this has allowed Epic Games to expand and use its resources to come up with new game modes and features such as the popular Creative mode and UEFN.

It seems that now that Creative 2.0 has been out for a while, Epic Games may be turning its focus on a brand new major game mode. According to information leaked back in May, Fortnite might be getting its own racing game mode. A few months ago, quite a few files were datamined and leakers found indicators that a game mode codenamed DelMar would be coming in the future.

Fortnite leaker NotJulesDev revealed some additional features that gamers can expect to see in this rumored racing game, and it seems it will have quite a few similarities to Mario Kart and Rocket League. It is likely that players will be able to perfect their acceleration timing right before the race starts in order to get a starting boost, just like they would in Mario Kart, and they will also be able to drift to boost. Fortnite has teamed up with Rocket League before, and there might be plans to do it again. In this game mode, cars will supposedly be able to flip in the air by jumping, and gamers might be able to ride the Octane Vehicle in Fortnite once again.

On top of this, more recently added Fortnite mechanics, such as mud, will play a role in the DelMar project. Mud and ice will impact a car's driveability, so gamers might want to avoid muddy puddles and icy roads.

More information has slowly been revealed over time, so fans have started to get a bigger picture of what to expect from the racing game mode. It looks like this will be a major addition to Fortnite and may turn out to be as big as the Battle Royale game mode, especially considering that it's going to have its own Battle Pass as well as a separate competitive mode.

Fortnite is available on Mobile, PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
