  • Epic Games has introduced various anime franchises to Fortnite, including Naruto, Dragon Ball Super, and Attack on Titan, and now Jujutsu Kaisen.
  • The Jujutsu Kaisen crossover could bring new elements to Fortnite, such as the potential appearance of Cursed Spirits and the ability to cast spells, but should be careful not to make the new additions overpowered.

Since Fortnite debuted in 2017, it's completely revolutionized the battle royale genre. With 400 million registered users as of June 2023, the free-to-play shooter is still very popular six years later. The success of Fortnite is thanks to several important factors, but perhaps the most crucial is Epic Games' willingness to collaborate with several different pop culture figures.

The most recent announcement confirmed a Jujutsu Kaisen and Fortnite crossover that makes sense. Now is certainly the right time for the shonen anime to be introduced to the game since the long-anticipated season 2 is currently airing. Fortnite often times its largest collaborations with the key moments for its guest franchise, and as Jujutsu Kaisen delves into Gojo's backstory, it's an opportune moment.

Jujutsu Kaisens' Characters Are Perfect For The World of Fortnite

Since Fortnite became a worldwide phenomenon, Epic Games has been partnering up with different franchises to deliver new skins and cosmetics. Oftentimes, these partnerships allow parts of the battle royale to be altered to fit the theme of the collaboration. For example, in both 2021 and 2023 for its respective Spider-Man crossovers, web-slinging was ushered into the game.

In the beginning, the battle royale seemed focused more on superheroes and live-action mediums than anything from anime. Characters from major anime IPs were not brought to Fortnite until 2021 with Naruto. However, after the introduction of Naruto came titles such as Dragon Ball Super, Attack on Titan, and My Hero Academia.

Since it was leaked that Jujutsu Kaisen would be crossing over with Fortnite, Epic Games revealed that it that should go live on August 8 during Update 25.30. This will usher in sorcerers Gojo, Yuji, Megumi, and Nobara whose backstories and abilities are simply perfect for the game. Players will be able to wield Cursed Tools, don new skins, and will likely be able to complete themed quests.

While the Attack on Titan crossover saw the addition of ODM Gear and Thunder Spears, Jujutsu Kaisen has its own unique elements. Though it hasn't been confirmed if this will happen, Cursed Spirits could appear around the island. It would also be interesting if players could cast spells against enemies. Perhaps this could act similarly to the Force from the recent Star Wars Fortnite event.

Additionally, Jujutsu Kaisen's world could learn a lot from the My Hero Academia Fortnite crossover and Dragon Ball Super crossover. Each has characters with supernatural abilities that need a way to be innovative for the game but not too overpowered. Some people believed drops such as Deku's Smash and Kamehameha were too oppressive, and this is something that Epic Games may want to avoid in the future.

A lot of excitement for Jujutsu Kaisen revolves around Satoru Gojo and Yuji Itadori's possessed counterpart, so it may be beneficial for Epic Games to focus on these two. There's definitely potential to highlight both characters while also introducing new mechanics such as cursed techniques to the shooter.

Truly, this crossover comes at an ideal time for both franchises. If Fortnite continues with its anime collaborations, then other shows like Demon Slayer and One Piece could be next on the list. It's unlikely that another anime partnership will occur during Chapter 4 Season 3 of Fortnite since it should be coming to an end on August 25. Regardless, it should be exciting to see what Epic Games does next.

Fortnite is available for Mobile, PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
