World of Warcraft entertains its players with a constant stream of in-game events, many of which pop up only a few times a year. One such recurring holiday is called the Trial of Style and gives players a way to relax and try something different. However, World of Warcraft’s transmog mini-event is hiding great rewards players might not know about.

The Trial of Style is a competition of aesthetics, where a group of six random players are placed in a special instanced room. There is a set theme for each round, and players must use the provided transmogrification vendors and barbershop chairs to customize their character to suit the theme. After a time limit of just over two minutes, the players display their unique looks, and the others vote on whose was the best.

The Trial of Style in World of Warcraft Has Unique Cosmetic Rewards

Each participant receives varying amounts of tokens, depending on how many votes they get. Players who win first prize also receive a neat buff declaring to the world that they are genuinely stylish. But there are, in fact, a huge number of cosmetic rewards players can purchase with these tokens, requiring minimal effort to acquire.

These transmog items are sold by the transmogrification vendor present in most major cities across Azeroth and don’t require the Trial of Style to be active. Players can spend their tokens on a variety of otherwise unavailable appearances, including whole outfits and retro weapons. Many items have few or no similar lookalikes anywhere else, such as beanies, boots, and pirate hats.

The aforementioned boots are notably special since they are some of the only shoes in the game that completely cover the feet of troll characters, a race that likes to remain barefooted no matter the weather. The huge variety of transmogs that players get to keep forever means that the Trial of Style has a lasting positive impact on the game, giving more love to the art of transmogrification.

During the entire event, transmogrification is absolutely free across the entire game, regardless of whether players participate or not. This is a nice touch, giving players unlimited freedom to adjust their outfits as often as they please without having to shell out loads of gold. Arguably there shouldn’t really be any cost to transmogrify gear in World of Warcraft, but for now, the Trial of Style is a welcome reprieve.

There are some tips and tricks to keep in mind when showing off at the Trial of Style to help earn the most votes each time. For example, worgen characters have the unique benefit of choosing between a human and worgen form, meaning a player can quickly change between the two to suit the theme of the contest better. This trick also works for Evokers, but their dragon form can only display limited armor.

Characters that can wear a wider range of weapons and collected appearances will also have an edge, so players must think about which of their classes have collected the most appearances, be it weapons, plate, mail, leather, or cloth. Some races are definitely more popular than others, and generally speaking, humans, elves and orcs tend to be more successful.

A character’s gender, hairstyle, and hair color can also influence their votes based on the theme, so players mustn’t forget the barbershop chairs as well as transmogrification. As an added fact, the shiniest and most impressive armor pieces are not always going to earn more votes. Sometimes, the simpler or more vanilla the appearance, the more charming and appealing it can be. Overall, there are many factors to consider when aiming to win in a competition of Style.

With its wide range of cosmetic rewards and impact on the game, the Trial of Style is unlike other minor holidays and more akin to the Feast of Winter Veil or Hallow’s End, the major highlights of the World of Warcraft calendar. With this in mind, players can keep a lookout for the Trial of Style the next time it pops up.
