Gold is a scarce resource in Baldur's Gate 3 and the game does a great job of making sure players have enough to play around with but not so much that they can eventually guy the best of everything for every character. That means players should be picking up and selling about everything that isn't nailed down.
But some of these pricy pieces are on the heavy side. Baldur's Gate 3 is packed with so much loot that even the strongest teammate is going to be encumbered after just an hour or two of play. Instead of passing up on items or waddling around slowly, some quick tips can allow the player to keep going at full steam.
Dealing With Encumbrance
- Have strong characters be the pack mules
- Send characters with full inventories back to camp
- Give items to other characters
- Send items (especially supplies) directly to camp
- Sell down at vendors
When picking up items, have characters with the highest Strength attribute do the looting. One of the perks to having high Strength is carrying more so gamers should take advantage of it. When these characters can't carry any more without becoming encumbered, replace the character with another party member and keep going.
If players prefer to loot with the main character, select the items individually and send the bulk of them to the pack mule of the party. Every so often, open the main character's inventory and send some of the items over to the primary carriers. When playing with teammates, communicate the role of the pack mule ahead of time and, when they're full, have a second character ready to receive gear.
Anything, such as rations, that increase camp supplies should be sent directly to the Traveller's Chest in the camp. Also, heavy weapons and armor that will be sold later can be sent to camp to be dealt with later. It's a more efficient use of time to explore an entire dungeon and sell in one big chunk than to make frequent stops at the camp and to vendors.
Finally, sell down at vendors. Find one close to a waypoint and sell all marked wares. Bring everybody who has anything to be sold in their inventory and give the group a clean slate. If players take all of these tips, becoming encumbered will be something that takes next to no time to deal with.
Baldur's Gate 3 is available in Early Access on PC and will be available on August 3rd, 2023. The PlayStation 5 version will be available on September 6th, 2023. A version for Xbox Series X/S is still in development.
