Baldur's Gate 3 players will encounter an injured Owlbear in a cave to the west of Druid Grove (X:88 Y:445), and they can either kill her or leave her alone. While some fans will opt to make this decision exclusively through roleplaying, others may want more information about the possible outcomes before they proceed. This guide is here to provide that information, and it will help players determine if they should kill the Owlbear in Baldur's Gate 3.

Should You Kill the Owlbear in Baldur's Gate 3

The first thing to know is that the Owlbear is destined to die no matter what the BG3 player ultimately chooses to do. Indeed, if a fan interacts with the creature and then decides to avoid the confrontation, a group of goblins will kill her after a Long Rest has been performed. This means that players can loot the Owlbear's corpse and nest without getting any blood on their hands, though there are some reasons to take a more active approach.

Specifically, players that slay the Owlbear will receive some XP in Baldur's Gate 3. Additionally, killing the creature awards an Inspiration point to some backgrounds, such as Outlander. While these rewards are not extremely impressive, as they can be earned in many other ways, they may tip the scales toward killing the Owlbear for those players that are on the fence about this decision.

To note, if the player chooses to dispatch the Owlbear themselves, they may want to avoid attacking her cub. Indeed, if the little one is left alive at the end of the battle, CRPG fans will have the opportunity to encounter it (after performing a Long Rest) in a nearby Goblin Camp, and they can rescue the cub to make it appear at their own camps. This is also possible if a player does not kill the Owlbear, as the goblins will steal the cub when they slay its mother.

With respect to the items that players can claim once the Owlbear is dead, they will find a Head of a Broken Spear on her body. This item can be combined with a Shaft of a Broken Spear, which can be found on the body of Edowin at X:136 Y:446, to create the Vision of the Absolute, an uncommon spear that can Blind its targets. There is also an Owlbear Egg in BG3's Owlbear Nest, and it can, at the very least, be sold for a tidy sum of Gold.

Baldur’s Gate 3 releases on August 3 for PC and September 6 for PS5. An Xbox Series X/S version is in development.
