After starting up Baldur's Gate 3, players will be onboard the Nautiloid and need to escape. With the controls very far away from the prison deck, gamers do not have a straight shot and will encounter many strange things as they try to find a safe way off the vessel.

One situation will be a room with some creatures called 'Sacrificed Cultists' tied strapped to chairs. Baldur's Gate 3 gives players a console with three buttons that enables gamers to interact with these Sacrificed Cultists with varying results.

This article divulges consequences within the game and reveals information the player's character may not know. Gamers that are committed to role-playing may wish to stop reading and find these things out for themselves.

Left Button Results (Button 1)

Baldur's Gate 3 Button Order For The Sacrificed Cultists

The first button on the left will allow the player to "interact" with the Sacrificed Cultists. This does not result in anything happening but does give the player some new information. Like the player character, these Sacrificed Cultists have been infected with an intellect devourer parasite.

Unlike the player character, these victims did so "voluntarily" (though it's hard to say anything is voluntary when a Mind Flayer is involved). They are also too far gone and in the advanced stages of being consumed. Players can't get a new intellect devourer companion as they did earlier, so unfortunately the choice at this point is to either leave them or kill them.

Middle Button Results (Button 2)

Baldur's Gate 3 Fighting The Sacrificed Cultists

The middle button, button two, will awaken the Sacrificed Cultists and a very easy combat encounter will begin. Players will get experience and loot but will also be faced with the grim task of battling against two Sacrificed Cultists who are still not quite intellect devourers.

Gamers will not have to change party members for this fight but since they know it's coming, they can position themselves to pounce as soon as the Sacrificed Cultists get out of their chairs. Be sure to loot the bodies afterward for some rewards.

Right Button Results (Button 3)

Baldur's Gate 3 Killing The Sacrificed Cultists

Using the button on the ride side, button 3, instantly kills the Sacrificed Cultists. Playing with friends has its perks but their services will not be needed for any combat should the player make this choice. Lae'zel will call the main character a "Fool" but this does not appear to have any lasting effect on her relationship with the character.

Note that the player will still be able to loot the bodies but experience rewards will not be given. Since the fight is so simple, it's probably better to fight the Sacrificed Cultists and avoid Lae'zel's snarky remark, so the middle button will be preferable to the third one in most cases.

Baldur's Gate 3 is available in Early Access on PC and will be available on August 3rd, 2023. The PlayStation 5 version will be available on September 6th, 2023. A version for Xbox Series X/S is still in development.
