After a rough landing immediately after the prologue section in Baldur's Gate 3, players will find themselves washed up on the shore. But the player character isn't the only one. Shadowheart, the High Half-Elf met on the ship, has also washed up and is still unconscious when the main character finds her.

But before tending to her, Baldur's Gate 3 offers an opportunity for gamers to take her mysterious artefact. Curious players who noticed her attachment to the item on the ship may want to finally unravel the mystery but there might be a cost associated with that.

This article divulges consequences within the game and reveals information the player's character may not know. Gamers that are committed to role-playing may wish to stop reading and find these things out for themselves.

Unfortunately, Shadowheart wakes up as the player tries to reach for the item, no matter how high the character's Sleight of Hand skill is. This results in Shadowheart being mistrustful. At this point, she's a permanent companion, unlike the intellect devourer pet, so making her upset will have some consequences.

The play character can, of course, get back into her good graces as the game continues. If they tell the truth about trying to take it, she's actually somewhat understanding and won't actively dislike the player more. But the ideal answer here will be to check on her and see if she's alright, which she appreciates and will get a jump start on a potential friendship.

When playing with friends, make sure whoever interacts with Shadowheart understands this. It won't ruin the game forever, but it can be a sour beginning to an otherwise entertaining campaign.

Baldur's Gate 3 is available in Early Access on PC and will be available on August 3rd, 2023. The PlayStation 5 version will be available on September 6th, 2023. A version for Xbox Series X/S is still in development.
