Since Baldur's Gate 3 is designed based on the Dungeons and Dragons game system, it's easy to see why many of the decisions in the game fall into good and evil categories. Most creatures have these two alignments and the player character can also make purely good and evil choices.
But deep at the heart of Baldur's Gate 3 is the neutral alignment, a hazy area where morality isn't always good or evil. Even the code of a Paladin permits the class to choose any answer. As Rolan, Lia, and Cal debate whether they should run for the city or remain in a place where they are unwelcome, the gamer is faced with one of these nebulous choices.
This article divulges consequences within the game and reveals information the player's character may not know. Gamers that are committed to role-playing may wish to stop reading and find these things out for themselves.
Rolan Outcomes
- If the player intends to side with the Goblins, convince Rolan to leave for him to live.
- If the player intends to side with the Druids, convince Rolan to stay for his ultimate happiness.
- The best outcome for Rolan, Lia, and Cal is if they stay and the player sides with the Druids.
- Evil characters can convince them to stay and then exile them or convince them to stay and then help the Goblins.
The happiest ending for Rolan, Lia, and Cal is if the team stays in the Druid's Grove and the player sides with the Druids over the Goblins. Even Rolan, who still wants to leave after the fight, is happier here than the life he will find in Baldur's Gate. This does require a Persuasion check, so change party members and use a character with high Charisma and proficiency in Persuasion.
With enough prodding, players find out Rolan is wanted at Baldur's Gate to possibly apprentice with Lorroakan. When speaking with Gale, he mentions that Lorroakan is egotistical and overrated. Rolan himself is also egotistical and overrated, but players that don't want him to become worse will certainly want him to stay. When playing with friends, make sure they're all aware of the potential outcomes.
Baldur's Gate 3 is available in Early Access on PC and will be available on August 3rd, 2023. The PlayStation 5 version will be available on September 6th, 2023. A version for Xbox Series X/S is still in development.
