Xbox console exclusive fighting game Killer Instinct is getting a massive update to celebrate its 10th anniversary. The latest Killer Instinct game first released as a launch title for the Xbox One. The game was fairly light on content at launch, though future updates have helped flesh it out quite a bit more.

Killer Instinct enjoyed three seasons worth of new character additions to help flesh out its roster. These character additions included returning characters from previous Killer Instinct games, as well as brand-new characters making their debut in the 2013 Killer Instinct. The third season of the game had a particular focus on guest characters, with Rash from Battletoads, Arbiter from Halo, and General RAAM from Gears of War all joining the lineup alongside Killer Instinct originals.

With Killer Instinct having first released in 2013 and the game not getting any substantial updates for years, fans may be surprised to learn that a massive update is planned for the 10th anniversary. Developer Iron Galaxy Studios is coming back to develop a special 10th Anniversary Update for Killer Instinct that will include a new balance update, improved matchmaking, and 4K support for Xbox Series X. It remains to be seen exactly when this update will drop and if it will be enough to bring fans back to the popular fighting game, but more information should come to light sooner rather than later.

What's strange is that this isn't even the first new update for Killer Instinct in 2023. Back in May, Killer Instinct received a surprise update that addressed some lingering bugs and other issues with the game. It could be a coincidence, but it is certainly possible that this update was released to help pave the way for the big 10th Anniversary Update, whenever it may release.

A specific release date has not been announced for the next big Killer Instinct update, but since it's being released to celebrate the game's 10th anniversary, it stands to reason that it could drop on the game's actual anniversary date. Killer Instinct first released for Xbox One as a launch title all the way back on November 22, 2013, so one has to imagine that the new update will be out on November 22, 2023 or somewhat before then. Killer Instinct fans will just have to stay tuned for more information on that front.

Killer Instinct is available now for PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
