The Archetype system stands as one of Remnant 2's biggest changes from the first game, and it's brought with it new and interesting ideas to the table. The Summoner Archetype dives deep into a minion master fantasy that lets players breeze through the game while letting their lethal companions do all the work for them.

Mixing and matching Archetypes is one of the key aspects of Remnant 2's character progression. The Summoner unlocks an entirely different playstyle that synergizes well with some of the game's other Archetypes. Here's how to get it.

Remnant 2: Unlocking the Summoner Archetype

A Bloodmoon Altar in Remnant 2

The first thing players want to do is jump into Yaesha and find a Bloodmoon Altar. This is typically found in the second open area of the world, like the Far Woods or the Forbidden Grove. Altars will appear on the player's map as big, blue markers, and they're usually locked behind a door that can only be accessed after completing a dungeon.

The Bloodmoon Altar is actually a vendor of sorts. Here, players can find the Faded Grimoire, the item needed to unlock the Summoner Archetype. Altars also contain other Summoner-related items like the Blade of Gul, trinkets, and the full Archetype-specific armor set.

Each of these items cost Scrap, Lumenite Crystals, and a new currency called Bloodmoon Essence. This is a Yaesha-specific currency that only drops during a Blood Moon. Players will know that one such area modifier is active when the skies above Yaesha turn crimson.

Bloodmoon wisps in Remnant 2

During a Blood Moon, players may randomly encounter purple wisps as they travel across Yaesha's outdoor maps. Shoot these wisps to gain one Bloodmoon Essence each. Their spawn locations do seem random, but they appear to hover over specific areas instead of roaming all over the map. Players may find these wisps in clusters of three or four.

Blood Moons in Yaesha happen randomly every time a player enters an instance. There's no need to reroll a campaign or Adventure Mode run; just jump back and forth between two areas until a Blood Moon pops up. Once one does, explore the entire map and shoot every wisp in sight. Be careful, though, as enemies will still spawn and make things harder than it has to be.

The Faded Grimoire costs 15 Bloodmoon Essence, 5 Lumenite Crystals, and 1500 Scrap. Bring this back to Wallace in Ward 13, and pay another 10 Lumenite Crystals and 1000 Scrap to unlock the Tome of the Bringer Engram, which players can use to freely swap to the Summoner Archetype. This also unlocks the Summoner as a starting Archetype in the character creation screen.

Remnant 2 is available July 25 on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
