Remnant 2 is out, much to the delight of Remnant: From the Ashes fans. And, much like the first game, there's an overwhelming number of guns, gear, amulets, rings, and more to obtain. And, one specific hidden Archetype requires players to get a lot of a certain Material called 'Blood Moon Echoes' in the world called Yaesha.

Trying to intentionally farm these to obtain the necessary items from the Bloodmoon Altar in Remnant 2 can be a bit difficult, especially if players aren't aware of how this in-game event works, so let's go over the best methods.

The Blood Moon Event & How It Works

First of all, for those who aren't quite sure what this 'Blood Moon Event' is referring to, the Blood Moon is a random event in the Yaesha world where players load into a zone, usually the Far Woods or the Faithless Thicket, and notice that the entire color palette of the zone has been tinged a bit red due to the bright red moon in the sky. Essentially, if players look up into the sky during this Event (whenever there's actual space to see it between the trees), they'll notice that the moon is also glowing red, hence the name Blood Moon

During a Blood Moon, players can run through the entire area it's active in and find these small glowing enemies called Root Wisps flying around. Destroy these, and players will have a bright purple orb fly into them and will obtain 1x Blood Moon Essence for doing so. Then, they can take this Essence to the Bloodmoon Altar (if it spawned in their roll of Yaesha), and use it to purchase all sorts of items, from an Archetype Engram to an Armor Set and even a Concoction or two.

Farming Blood Moon Essence

Now there's really only one way players in different communities have mentioned to 'farm' Blood Moon Essence in Remnant 2. It involves basically making it to the end of Yaesha's mainline quest, as well as getting a specific result from a specific World Boss in that player's randomly generated version of Yaesha.

Spoilers below for one of the potential World Bosses players can get in the world of Yaesha.

If players have the Ravager spawn as their World Boss (among many other potential Yaesha bosses), they will eventually have the option to 'spare' the Ravager by killing the Doe, which not only grants them the Ravager's Mark Amulet but also apparently makes it easier to get a Blood Moon to spawn the next time they 'warp' to any of the areas it can trigger in.

However, while it may have seemed this way to many players, there have been many 'theories' of what impacts Blood Moons showing up, but the only developer-confirmed method is just waiting and checking back every now and again. Killing the Doe, slaying random deer and birds around Yaesha, or wearing any sort of specific gear has no currently confirmed impact on the appearance of Blood Moons. To be honest, it really just seems like an RNG-based thing, with the only real 'tactic' being to make sure and Warp out of the zone completely to 'refresh' Yaesha, or even go back to Ward 13 before warping back in, as this allows the Blood Moon to actually trigger if it was already queued up to do so.

Because this event seems to have some sort of internal 'timer' before it can pop up again, it's usually best to just go experience some other area of Remnant 2 for a while and then check back in later, as most times if a Blood Moon 'can' spawn, it will. Remnant 2's procedural generation is one of the best examples in gaming, but it also has its fair share of downsides, and trying to get a specific event to pop up is one of them.

How To Actually Farm Essence Once The Blood Moon Spawns

Once a player actually happens upon a Blood Moon, don't panic. Yes, these are technically 'timed' events, but if done properly there should be plenty of time to farm most (if not all) of the Blood Moon Essences players need to buy out the Bloodmoon Altar completely. There are 3 simple steps to keep in mind for farming Essence once a Blood Moon is active:

  1. Don't touch any Worldstone or smaller Worldstone checkpoints while farming, as doing so almost always gets rid of the Blood Moon.
  2. Try and find Root Wisps near a Gate leading to another Zone, if possible.
  3. Kill the Wisps near this Gate, head through the Gate into another Zone, immediately head back into the zone with the Blood Moon, kill the Root Wisps again, then rinse and repeat as needed.

All-in-all, once it actually spawns farming a Blood Moon for tons of Essence is easy, it's getting the Event to show up that's the tedious part for all the solo players out there. And, just so players know exactly how much farming they'll need to do outside of the 15 needed for the absurdly strong Summoner Archetype, here are the costs for everything in the Bloodmoon Altar:

As a final little note, players should get at least one Sanguine Vapor when possible, as they can talk to Mudtooth in Ward 13 with it in their Inventory, and he'll make the Vapor in his shop from then on, which costs 500 Scrap and doesn't require any Blood Moon Essence.
