After spending much Remnant 2's story campaign hunting down all three mysterious objects for Clementine and the Keeper, players will eventually find themselves squaring off against the avatar of the Root—a hulking, wooden dragon aptly named Annihilation. This monstrosity is the pinnacle of the game's challenges, and it can be very tough to beat the first time around.

Annihilation is as deadly as it is intimidating. Its attacks are frantic, and many players may have trouble keeping up with its pace. Even on the lowest of Remnant 2's difficulties, this boss is still hard to beat. However, once players nail a few important parts of this boss' moveset down, then fighting it will become significantly easier.

Remnant 2: How to Beat Annihilation

Fighting Remnant 2's final boss, Annihilation

Understanding any boss' moveset is the key to beating them, and the same applies to this one. Annihilation may attack frantically, but its moves are actually very well-telegraphed. Repeat the fight enough times and players will eventually get the boss' attack timings down—the important thing here is to memorize its moves consciously instead of panicking. For reference's sake, here are the boss' attacks:

Phase 1

Attack

Description

Sword Stab

Annihilation slams its sword before stabbing it downward. This often chains up to three times total, with the final hit spawning energy orbs that seek players if not shot down.

Ground Slam

Annihilation slams the ground with its hand, causing waves of energy to cascade toward the player.

Sword Rush

The boss rears back and attempts to impale the player with its sword.

Phase 2

Attack

Description

Sword Swipe

Annihilation moves to one side of the arena and prepares to sweep the floor with its sword. This is usually accompanied by a barrage of lightning and followed-up by Tentacle Slam.

Tentacle Slam

The tentacles in the boss arena will slam toward an indicated direction. If annihilation slams its own tentacle, it will create a Blight cloud on the player's location.

Glitch

Annihilation swaps between its first and second forms, throwing the player off-guard.

Like most other bosses, this one mixes its attacks up to keep players guessing all the time. However, Annihilation has long wind-up animations that make each incoming attack obvious. So long as players learn the timing of each attack, they should have no problem dodging.

Here are some tips to make this boss fight less troublesome:

  • Players can keep Hunter's Mark active throughout the entire fight if they have Hunter set as their main Archetype so long as they keep scoring Weakspot hits.
  • Annihilation's sword swipe attacks have a very distinct sound cue, making them very easy to dodge.
  • Avoid moving around too much. Space is limited, and the boss' lightning pillars and tentacles punish players for running away and panic-rolling.
  • Prioritize shooting down orbs spawned by Sword Stab, as they can one-shot players if all of them connect. Gunslinger is especially good at doing this.
  • Use a mid-long-range weapon. Shotguns and similar weapons won't be able to deal their max damage regularly against this boss without the help of trinkets.
  • During the second phase, stay in the middle of the arena to avoid possible follow-up attacks from tentacles.
  • Lightning strikes during the second phase trigger one wave after the other. Make sure to be by the second or third row of lightning coils to make dodging easier.
  • If all else fails, consider using the Challenger as the main Archetype for its one-time revive passive.

Remnant 2 is available now on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
