Whether in movies, on TV, in books, or even in video games, whenever a dog shows up everyone experiencing that piece of media wants one thing, for that dog to be happy. And, the easiest way to make any dog happy is to give it some pets. In video games, in particular, having animals that players can pet is honestly something developers can almost put on the back of the box as a main 'feature' at this point.

In fact, there are entire social media accounts dedicated to answering this question with every new game that comes out, so let's take a look at what Remnant 2 offers in terms of pupper playtime, which should be easy, given that Remnant 2 has an entire Class based around having a dog companion with the Handler Starting Class.

Can You Pet The Dog In Remnant 2?

Short answer? Yes, absolutely. Slightly longer answer? Yes, and it makes the dog heal quicker.

And for the longer answer, let's break it down a bit more in-depth. Unlike most other games where petting the dog is just a simple animation that makes players feel good for a moment, petting the Handler's furry companion in Remnant 2 actually has a mechanical impact. The entire Handler Starting Class in Remnant 2 is based around this dog companion and allows players to command it at will, send it where they point, or have it howl to produce various effects depending on which skill is equipped.

Thankfully, the dog can't ever get 'killed' by enemies in this game, but it can get knocked down on the ground and needs to be revived to get back in the fight.

Of course, the best option overall is to prevent the dog from going down entirely. The easiest way to do this is simply by either using a Relic once the Best Friend Perk has been unlocked or by staying close to the dog so that its passive Health Regeneration is triggered.

However, an even faster way to heal this adorable Dog Companion back up to full, outside of combat at least, is to simply give it some head rubs. Petting the Dog in this game literally causes it to regenerate its health quicker, and anyone in the lobby can pet the Dog to trigger this as well, it's not only the dog's 'owner' AKA the Handler.

Remnant 2 releases on July 25 for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X.
