Diablo 4 brings out the best campaign the series has ever had so far. Its coherent narrative and interesting characters bring a lot of life to the dying Sanctuary, but the true worldbuilding lies within the game's many side quests.

Side quests in Diablo 4 are typically short. Some branch into quest chains, while others are simple one-and-done stories. The Reject the Mother side quest is part of the latter bracket, and it's proof that maybe not everyone in the game has gone off the deep end just yet.

The quest starts in the Tusmaa Rift area directly east of Ked Bardu. It should take no more than a minute to reach the spot marked on the map above, but beware of the demons lurking in every corner of the canyon. Interact with the stone tablet to officially kick things off. A message will appear, saying:

"Shout your rejection, 'no mother of mine' at her towering statue in rift's hidden shrine"

The towering statue in question is located deeper into the Tusmaa Rift, past the Carver's House and inside the tunnels behind it. This is the same location where players fight Genbar and Mahmon in the main campaign.

Fortunately (or not), there won't be any bosses to kill this time around. Players can breeze through the monsters leading to this spot and stand in front of the large effigy near the Dark Ravine dungeon entrance.

From here, all that's left to do is bring out the Emote Wheel and use the "No" emote. A small Heretic's Cache will appear, dropping a bunch of gold, some XP, and a bit of loot. This marks the end of the side quest.

The default keyboard binding for the Emote Wheel is E. Use the mouse wheel to scroll between available pages. If the "No" emote is not available on any of them, press the "Customize" button at the bottom of each wheel and find the emote from there. Bind it to any vacant slot or replace an existing one to proceed with the quest.

Diablo 4's Reject the Mother side quest is very short compared to some of the others. It sheds a bit of light on how defiant the people of the Dry Steppes are in the face of what is essentially the end of days.

The side quest's paltry rewards are a little disappointing, but the very little effort it requires makes it a nifty source of extra Dry Steppes Renown, which will eventually unlock bonuses like an extra potion slot, more Skill Points, and a handful of Paragon Points for the late game.

Diablo 4 is available now on PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, and PS5.
