Diablo 4 builds on a rich history that continues to define the action RPG genre. The franchise has had its ups and downs, but Diablo 4 has thus far been well-received. Many consider it a significant high-point for the franchise, and there's good reason for that.

One aspect that makes players so excited is the robust set of character classes. Blizzard is still refining them, but what's on offer at launch is a dynamic, balanced roster of classes with unique play styles. Some of the classes are more powerful than others, but none are outright unplayable. The following Diablo 4 tier list ranks the best Diablo 4 classes. At the end of the article, there's a helpful list of endgame builds for each class.

Updated July 22, 2023, by Robert Harper: Those curious about the best Diablo 4 classes for Season 1 are in luck, as this Diablo 4 tier list has been updated to reflect the current meta as of patch 1.1. Players can also find some of the best endgame builds for each of the five classes, allowing them to plan ahead a little better when choosing which Diablo 4 class they want to main for the coming season.

Diablo 4 Tier List (Best Diablo 4 Classes)

Blizzard has made quite a few tweaks to Diablo 4's classes in the latest series of patches. Many of these controversial changes radically shift the balance of power in the classes. The following class tier list details how each class compares in terms of ease of play and overall power, from best to worst. Blizzard will no doubt continue to refine the classes throughout the course of the game's lifespan, but here's how they stand as of now:

S Rank – Rogue

The Rogue has leaped into the lead when it comes to the best Diablo 4 classes. It seems to be the strongest class for Diablo 4's Season of the Malignant. As always, it does have a high skill ceiling. It takes clever positioning and specific builds to get the most out of a Rouge, but the value players will get for their effort has never been better.

A Rank – Druid

The Druid received some huge buffs in recent patches. Blizzard has made quite a few adjustments to their damage output, so now they're way ahead in terms of endgame builds. It still takes a long, slow grind to level them up, but once they're there, they're a powerhouse.

B Rank – Necromancer and Sorcerer

Necromancers have avoided many of the nerfs that other classes have suffered from. As a result, they remain a firmly middle-of-the-road class in terms of power. They're still a great class to play solo. There’s a ton of build diversity to enjoy since the Necromancer enjoys such a wide variety of different powers.

Sorcerers have caught the brunt of changes in recent patches. Their damage has been significantly nerfed, and the cooldown reduction they rely on has been chopped down. They've never had much in the way of survivability, but now that their damage is so reduced, they don't have much to balance out their downsides. That said, they're still effective at leveling quickly and clearing dungeons.

C Rank – Barbarians

Barbarians are still hard to kill and decently strong but also slightly underwhelming. They have a nice balance of challenge and accessibility, making them an excellent choice for new Diablo players. Their endgame builds aren't performing anywhere near their competition, but they're still capable.

Thankfully, this tier list doesn’t need a “D,” “E,” or “F” rank. None of the Diablo 4 classes are outright unplayable or totally broken. That said, there is room for improvement. Many players have voiced their dissatisfaction with the most recent changes, and it seems Blizzard might be responding soon. From the looks of it, the team will be tweaking and refining things for a long time to come.

Diablo 4 has a rich, repeatable endgame system that will keep players engaged for years to come if Blizzard plays their cards right. Starting at level 50, every Diablo 4 class gets access to Paragon Boards and a whole host of extra content. The extra progression system offers players more ways to customize their characters. This will come in handy as they face all the new threats they'll encounter in the endgame. Here are links to a few of the best builds for these classes in the endgame, all of which have been updated to reflect changes from recent patches.

Diablo 4 is available on PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, and PS5.
